Stay At Bed and Breakfast Inns – An Advantage Over The Others

Despite the fact that some of the television sit-coms are making fun of bed and breakfast dwellings, more and more people opt for this type of a holiday when on roads or during sight-seeing. These are generally intimate places where a bunch of people get to know each other. Quite a few bed and breakfast or B & B places are larger establishments like hotels where only breakfast is served.

From where it originated:

A few centuries ago, when the word “bed-and-breakfast” wasn’t created verbally, travelers passed their nights either at an inn or at a guest house. Knowing that the owner of the private guest house dictated their stay, this way of lodging gradually became paid-boarding in houses converted according to the requirements of the travelers that later came to be known as bed and breakfast inns.

Before the 1980’s, In the United States, only a few of these lodgings existed for a couple of years. Some of them shut down quickly, even though they were opened with the best of intentions and a lot of care. However, during the nineties, people found out the positive side of the bed and breakfasts, giving a big boost to the industry because the Bed and breakfast places have a lot to offer to a traveler.

Offered Services:

Firstly, they are highly economical, because most of them provide you with all meals, charge less for phone calls, and also their services are quite comparable to hotels. Since their guest list is smaller than the hotels, people get to know each other and become friends. The owners have complete knowledge about the surrounding area and are willing to help the guests with any kind of information they require.

A B&B, short for a bed and breakfast inn, usually offer mouth-watering delicacies. The quality of the breakfasts is higher than those at the chain hotels and motels who provide free continental breakfasts. Some small scale B&B establishments cater three meals a day. Most of them take special care for people with special diets.

The owners are usually very amiable, and sometimes they go out of their way to please their guests. Once, a businesswoman's laptop crashed and the house-keeper of the inn where she was staying, immediately called someone who could repair her computer. He let her work on his own computer until the repairs were done.

These B&B’s can be accommodations with a pleasant ambiance. A Northwest bed and breakfast is also a working lighthouse. A Vermont bed and breakfast is carved out of a transformed barn. Others are the Victorian house or a fisherman's cottage. I stayed in many B&B’s that were rumored to be haunted by ghosts! Although I haven't seen any of them.

In addition, the B&B’s are a safer option for women traveling alone. Business travelers can expect the lodgings to contain all the amenities like the internet, the wireless connection and other services like the fax machine. Sometimes owners provide babysitters for those parents who have little children.

Few cons of the Bed and Breakfasts:

One negative aspect of the Bed and Breakfasts can be the absence of private bathrooms. Most of these have been converted into private guest house so they have only a few bathrooms on each floor, but most of them now have the facility of attached bathrooms in each room.

A person intending to take a room at one of the B&B’s needs to do some homework to obtain the information about these inns in which they are going to stay and he has to make sure he does his reservation ahead of time. Bed and breakfasts are very hip and popular these days, and since they can accommodate only a limited number of guests, they may have no vacancies at times.

With their high quality, friendliness and ease, B&B’s are an excellent choice for a smart traveler. Once you experience a stay at a good Bed and Breakfasts, you'll be surprised to know that you want to extend your stay or want to come again some other time.
