Who Says We Can’t Have Fun in Ontario?

Ontario may not be known for skiing, but during the winter when snow is on the ground, there are definitely activities that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Check out the following 10 ideas in order for the family to become exhilarated and enjoy themselves while vacationing in Ontario:

1. Tubing – No, not water tubing as you do being pulled behind a boat, but snow tubing where you go down a hill. This should be considered one of the most fun activities in the snow. You sit down in a large inner tube and you will be dragged up to the top of the hill and once you decide the grade of hill you wish to go down you just take off. If you have a family and there are four or five tubes going down the hill in one time, you will make this a new family tradition.

2. Skiing – Instead of the thrill of going down a mountain, in Ontario you do cross-country skiing. There are trails you can spend a few hours on and there are many rest huts throughout where you can have hot chocolate to warm you up at the end of your skiing. Can you think of anything more peaceful?

3. Sledding – But you are not alone sliding down a hill. In Ontario, dogs will help you. There are events you can visit as well as trying it for yourself. There is nothing quite like dog sledding under a full moon.

4. Shoeing – You can really get back to nature and walk through the country. You will be given the opportunity to experience what the pioneers did hundreds of years ago. You may even get to see the wildlife.

5. Snow Mobile – There are numerous trails so you can go out on your own as you rent one for the entire day. If you are looking for more adventure, give the snow mobile safari a shot.

6. Skating – There really isn’t anything more exhilarating than being on the ice outside in the cold winter. This is a free even and you will travel the 7.8-kilometer ice road.

7. Luge – This is not a man-made luge. This follows the natural curves of a slope. It is only one of six in Canada.

8. Festival – It is winter, why not celebrate? It is a fantastic family celebration.

9. Fishing – Only you do not have running water to fish in. You will have to fish through the ice. If you wish not to be in the elements, you can always rent an ice hunt.

10. Fireside – There is nothing more romantic and inviting than a cottage with a fire in the fireplace and a book on the table next to a big wingback armchair. There are even cottages that have hot tubs to make this experience even better.

No matter the reason or idea you are visiting Ontario, as you can see there is something for everyone from families with children attending the Winter Festival all the way to Dog Sledding on a moonlit night. Once you try one of the activities you will make vacationing to Ontario an annual event.
