Insurance and Travelling

The beginning of the year is a critical time for the travel industry as many are choosing to go away on winter breaks.

As always, a crucial part of the planning includes making sure that the essentials for the holiday are packed. Regardless of the purpose of this trip, it is advised that you are sheltered against any unfortunate events that may occur during the course of the holiday. Therefore, travel insurance is regarded as one of the most important aspects to look into. There are many policies available for a range of different holiday types from extreme sports to skiing excursions and can be purchased from specialist insurers.

Consider the activities planned for the trip when looking up insurance quotes. Insurance always come in handy to avoid any additional medical costs should an unpleasant event occur during your skiing trip.

Remember that different insurance packages cover different aspects of the holiday, so look into the many plans they have or simply consult an insurance agent. Policy cards issued usually contain information about yourself and any other emergency telephone numbers you provided to the insurance company.

For those coming from the UK, it is recommended that you apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which covers the whole family for a certain level of protection within the European Union. These cards are valid for a period between 3 to 5 years and entitle you to treatment within the destination country.

However, the card does not insure against repatriation costs and certain medical procedures. Thus it is not to be considered as an alternative to holiday insurance. What you can do is average the costs between an EHIC and a travel insurance policy against the areas lacking. This would make the whole package cheaper compared to certain insurance policies seeing as the EHIC is valid for up to 5 years.

With a sound insurance plan, it helps to put your mind at ease during the holiday and enjoy fully the experience.
